The forecast is based on historical patterns, where the stock has often moved beyond the expected range during earnings announcements.
In recent quarters, the actual price change has exceeded the implied move in four of the past eight earnings reports. For example, on July 14, the implied move was 4.4%, but the stock actually surged 8.0%. On April 13, the expected move was 4.1%, but the stock shifted only 3.2%.
Historical data shows variability in stock movements. In January, the implied move was 4.0%, with the stock changing 3.7%. On Oct. 14, 2025, options predicted a 4.0% move, but the stock dropped 3.3%. Similarly, on July 16, 2025, the expected change was 3.5%, but the actual movement was just 1.7%.
Some quarters saw significant deviations. On April 14, 2025, options indicated a 1.3% move, but the stock jumped 7.0%. On Jan. 15, 2025, the implied move was 3.9%, with the stock moving 4.4%. On Oct. 15, 2024, options suggested a 3.7% move, while the stock shifted 5.6%.
