Goldman Sachs Warns of Long-Term Risks for Micron Investors
Goldman Sachs has maintained a Neutral rating on Micron Technology (MU) while raising its price target to $1,250 from $1,100. The firm sees a favorable near-term outlook for Micron but warns of longer-term risks due to rising industry capacity. Goldman expects tight supply-demand conditions for DRAM and NAND memory to persist through 2027 and 2028, supporting Micron's pricing and earnings in the short term.
The investment bank highlights Micron's 26 Strategic Customer Agreements, which are expected to cover about 35% of revenue through fiscal 2030. Approximately 75% of these agreements carry structured pricing terms, providing better visibility into future revenue and earnings. Analyst James Schneider views these agreements as a positive factor for Micron's financial stability.
However, Goldman's Neutral rating reflects concerns over potential headwinds from additional memory supply. Schneider identifies the key risk emerging around 2028, when new capacity could begin altering the current tight market. The firm believes that rising industry capacity could eventually pressure pricing and slow Micron's earnings growth, despite the near-term benefits of tight supply conditions.
