Google's latest Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) chips have been unveiled by Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, showcasing significant improvements in AI model training and performance. The eighth-generation TPU chips are said to offer three times faster AI model training and 80% better performance per dollar compared to their predecessors.

Elon Musk has praised the new TPUs on X, stating that they are 'underrated'. This marks a notable acknowledgment from one of the industry's most prominent figures. The TPU roadmap has been driving gains in Google's stock, fueled by optimism around its AI partnership with Apple and strong growth in the cloud unit.

Google Cloud revenue surged 48% in the fourth quarter, with management attributing this to AI infrastructure, including its TPU lineup. Peers such as Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta Platforms are also expanding their custom silicon efforts, aiming to reduce reliance on costly Nvidia hardware.
