Google Adds Ad Experience Metrics to CrUX Report
Google has introduced four new metrics to its Chrome User Experience Report (CrUX) that aim to quantify how advertising affects user experience. The new Ad Experience metrics are designed to provide data to publishers and advertisers, but may also have implications for SEOs and site owners.
The CrUX dataset collects field data from Chrome users who have opted-in to anonymous browsing measurement. The new metrics include:
Ad Count: measures the average number of distinct ad frames visible in the viewport as the user scrolls
Ad Density: measures the visual footprint of ads within the viewport throughout a session
Ad Weight: CPU - measures the cumulative computational load caused by loading and running ad scripts and assets
Ad Weight: Network - measures the cumulative network traffic load caused by loading and running ad scripts and assets
The data is available through the CrUX API, CrUX History API, and Chrome DevTools' Ad panel. It will also be added to the CrUX BigQuery dataset in the future.
