Google has agreed to pay £260 million to settle a UK class-action lawsuit over fees charged to app developers through its Google Play Store. The case accused the tech giant of abusing its market position by charging 'excessive and unfair' commissions.

The settlement, which still needs approval from the UK's Competition Appeal Tribunal, includes £160 million for developers and £100 million for legal costs. Google does not admit to any wrongdoing in the deal.

Developers based in the UK who sold digital content through apps distributed on Google Play from August 2018 may be eligible for compensation unless they opt out.
