Google AI Pro Plan Falls Short of Expectations
An experienced tech journalist recently tested Google's AI Pro plan for a year and concluded that it wasn't worth paying for. The plan offers increased Gemini limits, access to NotebookLM, and more, but the benefits didn't translate into real-world value for the author.
The author used the free tier of Google Drive storage, which was nice to have but not essential. They also benefited from three subscriptions to Google services: YouTube Premium Lite, Google Health Premium, and Google Home Premium Standard. However, they noted that these services are only useful for those already invested in the Google ecosystem.
The author predicts that Google will eventually increase prices or limit free users as the company seeks to recoup costs from AI Pro subscribers. They suggest that Gemini's Plus plan might be a more viable option for those interested in AI, but not ready to commit to the full AI Pro package.
