Google AI Summaries Exempted from Copyright Infringement Claims
A US federal judge has dismissed an antitrust case against Google, ruling that the company's AI summaries do not constitute copyright infringement.
The lawsuit was brought by Penske Media Corp and Chegg, who claimed that Google was unlawfully using content from their sites in its AI summaries, resulting in lost revenue due to reduced traffic to their sites.
US District Judge Amit Mehta wrote in his ruling that he is 'not unsympathetic' to the situation but concluded that addressing economic harm is an issue for legislators, not antitrust suits.
