Google AI Tops Prediction Model for Flu Hospitalizations
Google's AI technology has been recognized for its exceptional performance in predicting flu hospitalizations. According to recent data, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announced that a flu forecasting model built with Google AI was the top performer during the 2025-26 season.
The CDC's FluSight combines weekly submissions from government, industry, and academic teams to predict U.S. hospital admissions for the current week and three weeks into the future. The combined forecast is used each week to communicate anticipated state-level demand for medical services.
Of 39 eligible models, Google's best-performing model matched the season's observed hospital admissions. This achievement validates Google's confidence in using AI combined with human ingenuity to improve disease forecasting worldwide.
