Google and Apple Rename Lake Ontario as 'Lake America' Amid US-Canada Trade Tensions
Google and Apple have made changes to their mapping services to reflect the newly renamed 'Lake America' on the U.S.-Canada border.
The change follows an executive order signed by President Donald Trump, which rebranded Lake Ontario as Lake America amid a trade dispute between the two countries.
According to Google, users in the United States will see 'Lake America' displayed on their maps, while those in Canada will still see the original name 'Lake Ontario'. In regions outside of North America, both names will be shown with 'Lake America' appearing in parentheses.
MapQuest, however, has refused to update its mapping service and continue to display Lake Ontario as its original name. As a result, MapQuest has become the number one free app on Apple's App Store.
