Google and Georgia Power Team Up on Nuclear Uprate Effort

Georgia Power and Google have entered into a funding agreement to increase the power output of existing nuclear reactors in Georgia. The partnership aims to boost electricity production at the Vogtle and Hatch plants, with an additional capacity of approximately 96 MW targeted for the Vogtle and Hatch units.

The move is part of a broader trend towards leveraging existing and new nuclear infrastructure worldwide. In the United States, a separate initiative led authorities to choose Indiana as the site for their first military nuclear reactor.

According to Georgia Power, the planned power increase will allow the plants to operate at a higher authorized thermal output without changing their existing infrastructure or fuel design.
