Google and Qualcomm Redesign PC Architecture with Agentic AI
At Snapdragon Summit 2026 in Maui on September 24, Qualcomm and Google unveiled Googlebook, a laptop centered on agentic artificial intelligence (AI). Prajakta Gudadhe, Google's executive vice president of engineering for laptops and tablets, explained that working with Qualcomm showed the companies they couldn't build an AI-first laptop using a 20-year-old desktop PC architecture. They 'fundamentally rethought the computer' to achieve faster innovation.
Googlebook integrates Google's AI agent, Gemini Intelligence, at the operating system (OS) level and uses Qualcomm's Snapdragon X computing platform as its processing engine. This allows for native execution of desktop web processes and mobile apps without the need for emulators or virtual machines, which can cause performance loss and unnecessary power consumption.
Nitin Kumar, Qualcomm's executive vice president of product management, noted that Googlebook's shift to a bare-metal execution environment means the premium experience of Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite carries over directly. This provides instant responsiveness, all-day battery life, and smartphone-to-laptop continuity needed for PCs in the agentic AI era.
Googlebook also supports features like Continue On, which connects smartphones and Googlebook by allowing users to move tasks seamlessly between devices, and Cast Your Apps, which displays smartphone apps on the laptop. Additionally, Quick Access provides immediate access from Googlebook to files stored on a smartphone.
