Google Appeals EU Order to Share Search Data with Rival Engines

Google has filed an appeal against EU measures requiring it to share data with rival search engines and give competing AI services greater access to Android.

The company argues that these measures could put users' privacy at risk, particularly since the search data would be shared without adequate safeguards.

The European Commission announced in July that Google must begin sharing search data from January 2027 to 'rebalance the playing field' for rival search engines.

Changes to Android are also due next year, which would give competing AI assistants access to features available to Google's own services, such as Gemini. However, Google claims that Android is already open to other services and that the search data requirements lack adequate safeguards, user knowledge, and consent.
