Google Axes Pedestrian Safety Feature in Digital Wellbeing

Google is planning to discontinue its 'Heads Up' pedestrian safety feature in Digital Wellbeing, according to code strings in the latest beta app.

The feature, which uses motion sensors and location data to warn users to pay attention while walking, was introduced in 2021 as an opt-in option within Digital Wellbeing.

While it's unclear why Google is set to pull the plug on Heads Up, some speculate that it may be due to battery hogging and user annoyance from periodic nudges.
