Google Backs 16 Asia-Pacific Green AI Projects
Google has launched its inaugural DeepMind Accelerator in Asia-Pacific, supporting 16 organizations using AI to tackle environmental challenges. The program offers three months of technical support and access to specialist AI models.
The selected projects range from biodiversity monitoring and regenerative agriculture to carbon-credit verification and disaster-risk prediction. Six participants are developing tools for conservation and climate resilience, including using bioacoustics to monitor biodiversity through sound.
Five organizations will apply AI to emissions reduction, carbon removal, and urban energy systems. Japan's Archeda uses satellite data to make nature-based carbon credits measurable at scale.
The accelerator aims to help organizations navigate technical barriers and scale their environmental solutions. However, participants must demonstrate reliable performance across diverse landscapes and communities, and protect sensitive ecological and agricultural data.
