Google Beats Class Treatment in Safari Cookie-Placement Suit
Google LLC has successfully prevented class certification in a lawsuit alleging the tech giant illegally bypassed Safari browser settings to install DoubleClick cookies on consumers' browsers without their consent.
The US District Court for the District of Delaware's Judge Joshua D. Wolson denied the plaintiffs' motion for class certification, citing their failure to propose a reliable method for identifying individuals who allegedly received the cookies through Google's challenged conduct.
The lawsuit, which has been ongoing for years, centers on Google's alleged bypassing of Apple Inc.'s Safari browser default settings to install DoubleClick data tracking cookies. The court's decision effectively blocks the plaintiffs' attempt to proceed with a class-action suit.
