Google Brings Artifacts to Life with Virtual Study Room and Interactive Game
Google Arts & Culture Lab has launched two innovative experiments to connect people with cultural artifacts in new ways. The first, called The Talking Museum, brings over 190 cultural objects into a virtual study room where users can explore and interact with them.
The project was created by artist in residence Lex Fefegha and utilizes Gemini-assisted technology to bring the artifacts to life. Users can browse the collection by size, material, or era, and zoom in on individual pieces for a full 360-degree view. The platform also includes hotspots that highlight unique points of interest and provide audio commentary powered by Gemini.
The second experiment is an interactive game called Museum Memory, which challenges users to restore scrambled exhibitions. Game designer Carol Mertz and game developer Mary McKenzie created the game, which requires a good memory and sharp eye. Users first observe how paintings are hung in a virtual exhibition space and then try to memorize their placement. Once time is up, the paintings are scrambled, and it's up to users to restore the exhibition.
