Google Brings Digital Safety Roadshow to South Carolina Middle Schools
Google's Internet Safety Roadshow visited Blythewood Middle School in South Carolina as part of its tour across the Midlands. The program aimed to educate students about digital citizenship and online safety.
The assembly covered topics such as strong passwords, phishing scams, cyberbullying, and protecting personal data. Google representatives and district leaders led an interactive session, emphasizing the importance of being cautious when interacting with strangers online.
Dr. Kim Moore, Richland Two superintendent, stressed that helping teens understand digital safety is crucial for their future. 'Ten years from now, when they're applying for scholarships to college or submitting applications for jobs, people will google them and find that information, and it could impact them in a negative way,' Dr. Moore said.
The district officials plan to reinforce the lessons from the assembly in classroom curriculum throughout the school year and encourage parents to have regular conversations with their children about digital citizenship.
