Google Challenges MacBook Air with Affordable Googlebook Laptops
Google has launched its new line of laptops, called Googlebook, which will compete directly in the premium laptop market. The devices will start at $899 and top out at $1,299, with five different models available from partners Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo.
The first version of Googlebook is designed to provide an amazing laptop experience for Android users, according to top Android executive Sameer Samat. He emphasized that this is the beginning of a multiyear endeavor, not a replacement for all laptops or Chromebooks.
Googlebook combines a desktop experience derived from ChromeOS with Android underneath, allowing native Android apps to run alongside a full desktop Chrome browser, web apps, and Linux tools. One of its most distinctive features is Magic Pointer, which uses Gemini integration to understand text, images, and context on the screen.
