Google Chrome is notorious for its memory-hogging behavior, but one writer recently experienced an extreme case of it consuming nearly all available RAM on his machine.

The author's desktop PC had 32GB of DDR4 RAM and was normally able to handle multiple tabs open in the browser without issues. However, within a couple of hours, Chrome would start using up memory at an alarming rate, causing the computer to slow down significantly.

After investigating, the writer discovered that it was a recent extension he had installed to block social media websites that was causing the issue. The extension was consuming large amounts of memory and not releasing it back to the system.

By removing the extension, the author was able to resolve the problem and return to normal browsing behavior. However, this experience led him to discover another hidden feature in Chrome called Memory Saver that can help reduce overhead by automatically suspending unused tabs.
