Google Cloud and RemotiveLabs team up to revolutionize virtual vehicle development
RemotiveLabs, a Swedish tech firm, has teamed up with Google Cloud to accelerate virtual vehicle development and enhance quality before any physical components are built. The partnership combines RemotiveLabs' RemotiveTopology visualization platform with Google Cloud's Horizon, an open-source software development tool. This collaboration aims to create a "system of systems" where entire virtual vehicles, or "digital twins," can be designed and tested collaboratively in the cloud by various development teams.
Florian Haubner, industry architect lead at Google, highlighted the benefits of this integration, noting a 40% reduction in feature development costs, improved quality due to higher test coverage, and up to 9x faster software testing in virtual environments. RemotiveTopology, already used by companies like Volvo Cars, Ford, and Horse Powertrain, will expand Horizon's capabilities, enabling software design and testing to occur virtually early in the development process, a concept known as left-shifting.
Per Sigurdson, CEO and co-founder of RemotiveLabs, explained that the partnership aims to break down organizational silos, particularly between software and hardware domains. The collaboration with Arm, another key partner, provides the "compute foundation" for virtual twins, allowing developers to start software development before physical hardware is available. This integration enables earlier software integration, system testing, and AI model validation, moving workloads to physical hardware as it becomes available.
The integration between RemotiveLabs and Google's Horizon has already been completed, with the companies now announcing the partnership. This step forward in using AI, cloud computing, and collaboration is expected to boost speed, efficiency, and quality in the vehicle development process.
