Google Cloud Boosts PostgreSQL Performance and Resilience
Google Cloud has reaffirmed its commitment to open-source technology, specifically highlighting its investment in the PostgreSQL database system. The company's efforts aim to enhance performance, stability, and resilience within the upstream project and ecosystem.
In a recent summary of their technical contributions between January and September 2026, Google Cloud revealed that they have been working on four key areas: logical replication and conflict management, core engine performance and reliability, core catalog, collation, and indexing bug fixes, and PostgreSQL extension and ecosystem hardening.
One notable achievement was the development of a foundational conflict log table management infrastructure as an option in CREATE SUBSCRIPTION. This new feature will allow for automatic recording and resolution of data discrepancies across nodes, paving the way for active-active multi-master replication.
