Google Commits $1M to Train Veterans in Skilled Construction Trades Amid Data Center Boom
The charitable arm of Google has pledged a seven-figure commitment to train 25,000 veterans in skilled construction trades. The initiative will be led by Google.org and support organizations such as the Home Builders Institute, Hiring Our Heroes, and Student Veterans of America.
The program aims to address the severe shortage of skilled workers in the construction industry, which has been exacerbated by a data center boom. McKinsey estimates that the industry will pour $7 trillion into infrastructure by 2030, creating major demand for skilled trades workers.
Ed Brady, CEO of the Home Builders Institute, said that the commitment will help bring more electricians and other skilled workers into the business, benefiting all sectors of construction. He also noted that this is a significant issue in the country, highlighting the need for skilled labor.
