Google Commits to Community Investments Ahead of Data Center Build

Google has made its first round of community investments in Putnam County, West Virginia, where it plans to build a data center. The company will provide high-dollar investments and donations to local schools, the senior center, and fire department. These improvements were requested by the community through input sessions with Google.

Putnam County Senator Eric Tarr believes Google's commitment to being a good neighbor is genuine. 'They said they want to make this an example when they came to the area of transparency and being a partner with the community,' he stated.

However, not everyone shares Tarr's optimism. Some in the community have expressed skepticism on social media, accusing Google of trying to buy favor now only to leave the state behind later. This sentiment is rooted in West Virginia's history with big out-of-state corporate interests.
