Google has announced that Chromebook updates will continue in the Googlebook era, but at some point, new models will transition to Googlebook OS. According to a support page, current Chromebooks will receive updates through their supported lifetime, with Enterprise and Education management capabilities remaining in place.

The company says it will maintain support for current Chromebook devices running ChromeOS as outlined in its Auto Update policy. This means that current devices will continue to receive updates through mid-2034, when ChromeOS updates will come to an end.

Some models will be eligible to transition from ChromeOS to Googlebook OS, with many newer commercial Chromebook devices able to do so. The company says more details on migration paths and device eligibility will be shared soon.
