Google Cracks Down on AI-Generated Content with New Fact-Checking Requirements
Google has updated its guidance for websites that use generative AI to create content. The new rules require sites to fact-check and review all AI-generated content before publishing, including metadata such as title tags and image alt text.
This change brings Google's guidelines in line with the company's own talks at developer events. According to the documentation updates page, the revision was made on October 1.
The updated guidance warns that generative models can produce inaccurate information, which is often referred to as 'hallucinations.' To mitigate this issue, sites are advised to manually fact-check and review all AI-generated content for accuracy and trustworthiness before publishing.
