Google Cracks Down on Unverified Contact Info in Google Posts
Google has tightened its rules for unverified contact information in Google Posts. The tech giant updated two of its help documents to allow phone numbers only if they are verified. Unverified contact information, including phone numbers, email addresses, and social media handles, may be removed by Google to prevent fraud or abuse.
Hiroko Imai spotted the change and recommended that businesses avoid directly including contact information in post content. Instead, she suggests using website links (CTA buttons) for directing users to official websites or social media pages under the 'Details' or 'Book Now' options.
Google's updated documents now state that posts with unverified phone numbers may be rejected if they cannot be verified as connected to the business. This change aims to prevent abuse and protect businesses from potential risks.
