Google Cuts 52 Jobs in Washington State Amid Regional Layoffs

Google has cut 52 jobs in Washington state, its first significant reduction since 2023. The layoffs include software engineers, engineering and product managers, mechatronics engineers, UX designers, and recruiters across seven buildings in Kirkland, Redmond, and Seattle, as well as three remote employees living in the state.

The WARN notice filing by Google states that the separations are permanent and not due to moving work elsewhere or contracting it out. The company has given no reason for the cuts, but is reportedly choosing to put those roles somewhere other than Washington.

This move comes days after Zillow told the state it was eliminating 91 of its own jobs. In total, 143 high-paying Washington jobs have been erased in a single week by these two companies that are not in any financial distress.
