Google Data Center Leader Joins Anthropic Amid AI Expansion
John M. Wilson, who previously led global design and construction for Google’s data centers, has joined AI startup Anthropic. After six years at Google, Wilson has taken on a role as a member of technical staff, focusing on EMEA capacity delivery.
Wilson shared his insights on LinkedIn, reflecting on his experience at Google. He highlighted the importance of scale and high-trust teams, noting that clear intent and calm execution are key to overcoming complexity. He expressed excitement about his new role, stating that the stakes and scale at Anthropic are unprecedented.
Wilson’s move to Anthropic is part of a broader trend of former Google employees transitioning to the AI company. Other notable hires include Winnie Leung, now head of data center infrastructure, and Brett Rogers, formerly Google’s data center construction lead. Additional transfers include Liwen Mao, Adam Johnson, Peter Sarossy, Zach Miller, Scarlett Chen, Sana Ouji, Mike Brinker, and Asad Malik, all of whom brought expertise from Google to Anthropic.
Before joining Google, Wilson worked at Amazon as the European head of design and construction. He also served in leadership roles at the British Army and NATO, bringing a diverse background to his new position at Anthropic.
