Google DeepMind Accelerates Gemini 4 Release Amid AI Rivalry
Google DeepMind's chief Koray Kavukcuoglu has revealed that Gemini 4, its next premier artificial intelligence model, is nearing completion. The model will mark a significant milestone for Google as it strives to close the gap with industry rivals Anthropic and OpenAI.
Kavukcuoglu spoke at The Information's AI Agenda Live Summit, sharing key updates on the model's development schedule. He stated that Gemini 4 has entered the initial stages of post-training, a crucial engineering phase where raw base models are fine-tuned for dependable behavior.
The executive expressed hope to release Gemini 4 'much earlier' than the end of the year. This announcement arrives as Google releases two advanced text-to-speech systems: Gemini 3.8 Flash TTS and Gemini 3.8 Flash-Lite TTS. These models are designed for developers, content creators, and businesses, offering upgraded audio capabilities in Google products like Google Vids and Gemini Notebook.
