Google Demands Users' Video Selfies for Account Sign-Ins
Google is now asking users to take a video selfie to sign into their accounts, marking an eerie step towards making facial recognition a standard way to navigate the web.
The feature, which was first announced in July, remains optional but has begun being pushed on Google's home page with a nudge at the bottom of the screen that asks users to 'sign in with a selfie'.
Users can record a short video of their face while moving their head to capture different angles, and then use this video to verify their identity if they're locked out or don't have access to their usual devices.
The video selfie will also be used to determine the user's age and allow Google to improve its facial recognition, age estimation, and other verification methods across its services.
