Google Ditches Auto Photo Backups from Drive to Photos

Google has announced that it will be ending automatic photo transfers between Google Drive desktop backups and Google Photos starting August 10. This means that users who rely on this existing setup will need to switch to backing up their photos directly through Google Photos in order to continue automatically storing new images in the cloud.

Under the change, photos saved in folders backed up through Google Drive for desktop will no longer be automatically transferred to Google Photos. However, existing photos already stored in Google Drive will remain available, so users do not need to worry about losing any previously uploaded images.

Users who want to continue backing up their photos through Google Photos can configure folder backups directly from the Google Photos website. This involves opening Google Photos, selecting the option to back up folders, choosing the folders containing the desired images and granting the necessary permissions.
