Google Ditches China for Pixel Phone Production
Google has announced plans to end production of its Pixel phones in China as soon as next year, shifting focus to Vietnam and India. This move follows years of efforts to relocate manufacturing away from China, with reports dating back to 2019. The Pixel 11 series was developed and produced entirely in Vietnam, giving Google confidence to make this change.
The company aims to sell around 13 million Pixel phones in 2026, an increase of 8-10% from last year's 12 million units. Despite ongoing 'RAMageddon' and skyrocketing component costs, Google has been bundling orders for Pixel components with its cloud business to negotiate better prices.
According to a source familiar with the company's plans, Google's strategy around Pixel in 2026 is to 'attack' and grow at all costs. This aggressive approach is aimed at maintaining shipment growth momentum.
