Google Ditches Google Assistant for Gemini on Android Devices
Google has begun phasing out its Google Assistant on Android devices and replacing it with Gemini. According to a post on the Google Assistant Help page, access to Google Assistant was removed from Android mobile devices starting September 3.
The update is expected to take a few weeks to reach all users, but no specific timeline was provided. The change only affects Android mobile devices and accessories that pair with phones, such as smartwatches, headphones, and car systems. Google Assistant will remain available on other Google devices.
Gemini, introduced in 2023, is a more advanced AI assistant that can handle complex tasks beyond the capabilities of Google Assistant. While Gemini offers many benefits, some Android users have expressed dissatisfaction with its performance. Several users reported issues with Gemini not correctly playing requested songs from third-party streaming services and taking longer to complete tasks compared to Google Assistant.
