Google Ditches Visible Watermarks for Gemini Creations
Google has started rolling out an option for users to remove visible watermarks from images, videos, and music generated with Gemini. This change is being implemented over the next few days and applies to all Gemini-generated content, except in countries where displaying watermarks is required by law. Users can toggle the 'Show watermark' setting on or off for future creations under the Media Watermark option in the Settings menu.
Josh Woodward, Google's vice president leading Gemini, AI Studio, and Google Labs, said this change was made in response to user feedback, with removing visible watermarks being one of the most requested features. The company aims to balance creative control with transparency by allowing users to choose whether or not to display watermarks.
It's worth noting that invisible SynthID watermarks and C2PA metadata will still be embedded in the background, meaning content can still carry information indicating its AI provenance even when visible marks are removed. Google is also open-sourcing Credentio, a C++ library for working with C2PA Content Credentials.
