Google Diversifies Supply Chain, Exits China for Pixel Production
Google has announced plans to move production of all Pixel devices out of China by 2027, in an effort to diversify its global supply chain amid geopolitical and trade risks.
The Alphabet-owned company has informed suppliers that it intends to manufacture all Pixel smartphones, smartwatches, and wireless earbuds outside China starting from 2027. Vietnam and India are expected to emerge as Google's primary manufacturing hubs.
Google has already produced high-end Pixel smartphone models in Vietnam, with the success of those operations reportedly giving executives greater confidence in establishing the 2027 target. The company is also expanding Pixel manufacturing in India, including the production of more advanced smartphone models.
This shift would make Google one of the most prominent smartphone manufacturers to substantially reduce its reliance on China for production, following in the footsteps of Samsung Electronics, which has already moved much of its smartphone manufacturing overseas.
