Google Drops €13 Billion on Finland's AI Future
Google has announced its largest investment in Europe, totaling at least €13 billion, to be made in Finland's AI infrastructure by 2027-2028. The company will construct three new data centers for AI services, upgrade the electricity grid, and invest in clean energy projects and energy storage systems.
The investment package includes a 22-year agreement with Fortum to purchase nuclear electricity from the Loviisa nuclear power station, one of Finland's two nuclear power stations. This marks Google's first nuclear energy agreement outside the US.
Google estimates that the construction will add approximately €3.6 billion to Finland's GDP and support around 7,000 jobs each year once operational.
