Google Earth AI transforms global public health with predictive disease forecasting
Google is leveraging its Earth AI technology to revolutionize global public health by providing advanced predictive tools that help forecast disease outbreaks and deliver care to vulnerable communities. By combining local health data with geospatial models, Google aims to bridge reporting gaps and shift emergency response from reactive to proactive. The company’s research, conducted with global health partners, demonstrates how Earth AI can address diverse health challenges across different regions.
During the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Google’s Geospatial Reasoning agent prototype helped the World Health Organization (WHO) map remote mining corridors and identify over 45,500 at-risk individuals in minutes, a task that would typically take weeks. Additionally, predictive models using Earth AI provided critical planning time by estimating the risk of Ebola spreading into uninfected zones. Beyond outbreaks, Earth AI has been used to predict cardiovascular mortality, track immunization rates, and forecast dengue fever outbreaks with greater accuracy than traditional methods.
Google is making these capabilities accessible through the Population Dynamics Insights dataset, available via Google Maps Platform, and offering no-cost access for select use cases. Google.org has also provided funding to modernize disease surveillance infrastructure in the DRC. By integrating planetary intelligence with local expertise, Google is working to build proactive, data-driven tools to protect communities worldwide.
