Google Earth Reveals Gaza Destruction in Shocking Resolution
New satellite images from Google Earth have revealed extensive destruction in Gaza, showing vast areas transformed by Israel's military offensive. The imagery appeared online on Sunday and has been widely shared on social media platforms.
The updated views show neighbourhoods reduced to rubble, with roads remaining visible but surrounding landmarks severely damaged. Analyst Nathan Ruser described the imagery as showing 'the reality of Gaza in shocking resolution'.
The southern city of Rafah is prominently featured in the images, with areas that previously had dense rows of homes now appearing largely cleared. Other views show sprawling concentrations of makeshift shelters across open ground.
Gaza city's Al Shifa Hospital appears significantly altered compared to previous imagery, reflecting the scale of destruction inflicted during the war. The UN Satellite Centre reported in August that 82% of Gaza structures had been damaged, with two-thirds destroyed, since October 7, 2023.
