Google Employees Warn Candidates to Bypass AI Hiring Filters
Google's AI hiring filters are under scrutiny after an internal document revealed that employees were advising candidates to fill out a second form alongside their application to increase their chances of being seen by a human. The document, viewed by Bloomberg, was from Google DeepMind's AGI Safety and Alignment Team, which warned that the applications system had a 'non-trivial probability' of incorrectly screening out or delaying CVs.
The team advised candidates to fill out the secondary form, stating that it would ensure a real human on the team would see their application. This suggests that AI filters may be improperly screening out candidates, raising doubts about Google's use of AI in hiring.
The issue highlights the growing tension between job seekers and employers using AI in the hiring process. According to Gartner research, only one-quarter of job candidates trust AI tools to fairly evaluate their application, while nearly one-third are concerned that they will be screened out by AI.
