Google Enables Seamless Password Switching on Android

Google has introduced a new feature on Android that makes it easier to switch between password managers. The company said Thursday that users can now transfer passwords and passkeys directly between providers without having to download files.

The process involves opening a new password manager app, selecting the import credentials option, and choosing the provider from which to import data. Android then detects existing password managers on the device and displays available import options.

Users can review and authorize the transfer through their existing password manager, after which the data is transferred between apps in seconds. This eliminates the need for users to download passwords into unencrypted text files, which left credentials unprotected on devices.

The new feature also allows passkeys to be transferred directly between services, eliminating the need for users to recreate them across multiple sites and apps.
