Google Enables Seamless Password Transfer Between Android Apps

Google has rolled out a new feature on Android that makes it easier for users to switch between password managers without losing their credentials.

The transfer process allows users to import passwords and passkeys from one provider to another without having to download files first. This eliminates the previous risk of exposing sensitive information on devices.

Users can initiate the transfer by opening a new password manager app, selecting the option to import credentials, and choosing an existing provider. Android will then detect available import options and prompt users to review and authorize the transfer through their current password manager.

Once authorized, the data is transferred in seconds. The feature also allows for exporting data from one's current password manager. Currently, Google Password Manager, 1Password, Bitwarden Password Manager, and Dashlane support this experience, with other providers to follow suit.
