Google Enacts Sideloading Rules in Four Countries, Affects Unverified Apps
Google's new Android sideloading rules have officially taken effect in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand. These changes block apps from unverified developers on certified Android devices running Google Play Services in these regions.
The restrictions will be rolled out globally by 2027. Users can bypass the restrictions through Google's Advanced Flow, ADB (Android Debug Bridge), Shizuku, rooting, or custom ROMs like Lineage OS and GrapheneOS.
Apps installed prior to the policy rollout will continue to work, but updating them requires completing one of the sideloading steps. Turning off Developer Options after setting up Advanced Flow will not revert permissions.
