Google Enriches EEA Search Results with Local Businesses
Google has updated its search result units in the European Economic Area (EEA) to include local businesses. The change was logged on September 18, and it affects both the aggregator unit and the supplier unit.
The aggregator unit shows listings from approved vertical search services, including directories, comparison shopping services, and metasearch engines. The top-ranked provider's results are expanded by default, and only one aggregator unit shows at a time.
The supplier unit appears alongside the aggregator unit and shows the businesses themselves. Local businesses can appear in this unit without sending Google extra data.
Google has made these changes to comply with the EU's Digital Markets Act, which includes a deadline for compliance that is approaching. The company's redesign may affect rank tracking and Search Console data in EEA countries.
