Google Expands Data Center Presence in Arkansas Amid Energy Demand Growth
Google's data center expansion in Arkansas was discussed during a recent meeting between company representatives and state lawmakers. The company is already constructing a facility in West Memphis, which is part of a 20-year partnership with Entergy Arkansas.
Rachel Wilson, Google's energy market development representative, emphasized that the data centers power not only artificial intelligence development but also other products such as Google Search, YouTube, Gmail, and Google Maps. She encouraged lawmakers to consider various factors when evaluating new projects, including energy and water use, noise, land and wetlands impacts, buffer zones, and community benefits.
Construction on the West Memphis data center is underway, and a potential project in Little Rock is also being explored. Wilson noted that Google's energy demand is expected to continue growing over time.
