Google Expands Edge AI Chip Development in Israel with New Team
Google is expanding its presence in Israel by establishing a new engineering team focused on developing artificial intelligence processors for edge devices. The team will be led by Guy Kaminitz, a former vice-president of research and development at Israeli AI-chip company Hailo.
Kaminitz has joined Google as silicon engineering head in Israel and is building the new group from scratch. The team will consist of dozens of engineers specializing in machine-learning hardware architecture, chip verification, physical design, and silicon validation.
Google's move represents a major vote of confidence in Israel's semiconductor and AI engineering talent, which has developed one of the world's strongest concentrations of expertise outside the US and East Asia. The company is betting that Israeli engineers can help build the silicon that makes machines intelligent as AI moves increasingly into the physical world.
