Google Expands Nosnippet Rule to AI-Driven Search Results

Nosnippet is an instruction that tells search engines to list a page without its snippet, which is the descriptive text that normally appears beneath a result's title.

Site owners can write this instruction into a robots meta tag or send it in an HTTP response header. The page will still be indexed and can rank, but it will appear only as a title and address.

This rule exists because some publishers want to be found without having their words reproduced on results pages they don't control.

Google's documentation now extends nosnippet to AI Overviews and AI Mode, where it stops a page's content from being used as a direct input.
