Google Faces Backlash Over Massive Finnish Data Center Project
Google is facing criticism for clearing over 300 hectares of land in northern Finland to build two new data centers, despite not completing necessary environmental assessments.
The Finnish Nature Conservation Association has expressed concern that local bird species may have been impacted by the area being razed, and that the forest serves as a critical ecological connection between habitats.
Google maintains that its felling of the trees met the requirements of Finland's Forestry Act and that it had completed extensive environmental evaluations. However, the association has asked Finnish regulators to suspend activities until the conclusion of the ongoing assessments.
