Google Faces Rules Requiring More Transparency in Search Services
Britain's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has proposed rules that could give users of Android and Chrome more control over their search services. The strengthened proposals, unveiled on Wednesday, would require Google to ask users if they want to keep it as the default service for web searches. This includes AI assistants like ChatGPT and Perplexity.
The move aims to increase competition among search services, which could benefit the cryptocurrency market. The CMA believes that giving users more control over their search options will improve discovery and visibility of decentralized finance (DeFi) services, decentralized exchanges (DEX), and centralized exchanges (CEX). This, in turn, may support token adoption and the development of AI-driven crypto tools.
The rules could also reduce the risk associated with relying on gatekeepers for cryptocurrency search and security comparisons. The CMA wants to ensure that users have a clearer choice over which services they use, promoting competition and innovation in the market.
