Google Fails to Eradicate Scam Ads Despite Massive Removal Efforts
Despite taking significant steps to remove scam ads and block malicious accounts, Google remains a haven for scammers, according to an analysis by VAB. In 2025 alone, the search giant removed more than 8 billion ads and shut down around 25 million advertiser accounts.
The analysis, titled 'Bad Actors: Examining How Much Objectionable Advertising Google Takes Action Against,' found that Google removed over 602 million ads related to scams in 2025. Furthermore, it suspended more than 4 million accounts for scam-related activity.
However, the VAB argues that Google has not reported how long these scam ads were live and how many people viewed them before being taken down. This raises questions about the effectiveness of Google's measures to combat scams on its platform.
