Google Fiber Construction Costs Deli Owner $15K
Nashville deli owner Alphonso Anderson is fed up with the Google Fiber construction project outside his business, Big Al's Deli. The work has been ongoing for six weeks, much longer than the original four-day estimate, and has cost him an estimated $15,000 in lost sales.
The construction has blocked customer parking and at times forced Anderson to close his doors. He claims a lack of communication from Google Fiber has made the situation worse. 'The cones have been here for at least 6 weeks or more and then they'll change the dates on them randomly,' he explained.
Anderson is not alone in being affected by the construction. The disruption has left him with few options for customers trying to reach his business, and he's had to turn some away. He thinks Google Fiber should take responsibility and make affected businesses whole.
Nashville Mayor Freddie O'Connell agrees that private companies like Google Fiber must be held accountable when working in public spaces. 'We do have to hold private vendors like Google Fiber accountable when they are disrupting public rights of way,' he said.
